At The Humble Hub/Heart in St Leonards-on-Sea
Designed for bodyworkers, trauma therapists, doulas, and holistic practitioners, experienced and new.
Pulsing Training is an experiential, hands-on journey where you’ll learn a variety of rhythmic bodywork techniques while deepening your own presence and self-awareness. Through practical training, you’ll develop the skills, confidence, and sensitivity to offer safe, effective sessions to others, while also supporting your personal growth as a practitioner and as a whole person.
Personal Development & Professional Training
This Pulsing Training is a nurturing and immersive journey into the art of rhythmic bodywork. Rooted in presence, intuitive listening, and connection, Pulsing uses wave-like rocking movements to guide the body into profound states of relaxation and safety.
Through this approach, the nervous system is gently regulated, allowing held tension, emotional patterns, and trauma to soften and release. Pulsing supports physical vitality, emotional wellbeing, and holistic healing, inviting the body back into flow, balance, and ease.
WHO IS IT FOR
The training is for experienced practitioners, bodyworkers and trauma therapists who wish to incorporate more bodywork into their therapy or learn a new system. Those new to bodywork are also welcome.
CONTENT
Throughout the training, you will develop a wide range of hands-on Pulsing techniques, while also deepening your understanding of how the body holds stress, trauma, and emotional patterns. You will learn how to support safe, gentle release and integration through attuned, responsive touch.
You will learn how to:
-
Rotate and rock the body using gentle, circular and rhythmic pulsing movements
-
Swing and softly mobilise the limbs to create fluidity, support alignment and release tension
-
Pulse, stretch, cradle and hold the body in ways that foster safety, trust, and deep relaxation
-
Work with rhythm, stillness, and intuitive listening rather than force or manipulation
-
Explore a range of pulsing rhythms — from slow, meditative pulses to more dynamic and energising movements — allowing the client to safely explore sensations and emotional states that may feel unfamiliar or habitually held back
-
Recognise and respond to signs of nervous system activation, learning how to support clients through emotional release with sensitivity and presence
-
Adapt techniques to suit different bodies, sensitivities, and individual needs
-
Open and close sessions in a grounded, contained, and integrated way
YOUR JOURNEY
While this training provides solid, practical skills you can use in a professional setting, it is also a profound journey of personal development. Through both giving and receiving, you are invited to slow down, deepen your awareness, and reconnect with your own body and inner rhythms. Many participants experience this training as deeply regulating, restorative, and transformative on a personal level.
As you cultivate sensitivity, presence, and attunement through touch, you may notice shifts in how you relate to yourself and others — developing greater trust, compassion, and embodied confidence. This inner work naturally enriches your professional practice, allowing you to offer sessions that are authentic, intuitive, and grounded in lived experience rather than technique alone.
History of Pulsing
Honouring the Lineage
Pulsing was created in the late 1970s by Curtis Turchin, a bodywork practitioner from the USA. Rooted in Reichian bioenergetic principles, Pulsing works with the body’s natural rhythms to support relaxation, release, and integration.
In 1978, he gave a demonstration of Pulsing at the Open Centre in London, introducing this gentle, rhythmic approach to bodywork to a wider audience, including Silke Ziehl and Guy Gladstone. Both went on to train with Curtis Turchin the following year. They later further developed the work and began offering their own Pulsing trainings, preserving the integrity, simplicity, and depth of the original practice.
Richard Lawton undertook his basic Pulsing training with Guy Gladstone and later completed his Master training with Silke Ziehl. For many years, he assisted Guy Gladstone on his trainings, deepening his understanding of both the technical and relational aspects of the work. When Guy Gladstone retired, he entrusted the Pulsing training programme to Richard Lawton, placing the continuation of this lineage in his hands.
I have trained directly from Richard Lawton, learning within this established lineage and benefiting from his many years of experience, depth of practice, and close connection to the original teachers. My work and teaching are grounded in this transmission, honouring the principles, rhythm, and integrity of Pulsing as it has been passed down.
